Happy Superbowl Sunday Synners! Time that I celebrate that it is one step closer to baseball season! Woohoo!! Okay Kate, back to music…
Last Monday I took on a campaign for The Kills marketing what was a very different marketing technique used in past SynnerNation campaigns. Before taking on this show, I was not too familiar with The Kills or their music, but I always love taking on shows with artist I am not familiar with, because what other great way to learn about different styles of music. The Kills main marketing tool was promoting a book of a collection of Polaroid pictures taken throughout their tours, something that I have never seen used before by bands. I felt like it was a great way for fans of The Kills to see captured, behind the scenes moments of their tours that they would not normally see. I LOVED that this was something different from the typical flyers, posters, and stickers used to promote bands or artist. Another type of marketing The Kills wanted with our promotions was the collecting of email addresses so that fans can have a way to stay connected to what is going on with The Kills. I was kind of hesitant when seeing this, because I knew that this strategy was going to be hard to accomplish. With social media today, fans are able to gain instant news about the bands in much faster methods such as Facebook and Twitter.
Upon arriving at the venue, I was puzzled to see that the same books I received to promote were on display at the merch table. My first thought was, why was I there to distribute the books if they were on display for everyone to grab? But I didn’t let this stop me from trying to rock the campaign. When you are a Synner, or a street teamer in general, you never know what the circumstances are going to be upon walking into a venue or how successful/unsuccessful a campaign is going to be. You have to learn how to just roll with what you are given.
I have to say that this was one of the hardest campaigns to try to successfully complete. Trying to gather emails like the client specifically wanted was very tough. Many of the fans stated that they were already signed up for the email updates, while others said they were not interested in signing up. While having materials to hand out, it came down to either having the attendees reject the email list or handing out the photo books, so I went with trying to distribute as many photobooks as possible. This was also a challenge like I stated due to the many of the attendees already grabbing or flipping through one while they visited the merch table.
Overall, the campaign was successful in some ways and unsuccessful in others. This is something that is very common when handling certain campaigns. It’s always better to use your judgment so that you make sure the campaign goes as successful as you can possibly make it.
If you haven’t already, definitely check out The Kills. They were AMAZING with such a great performance, that definitely gained them a new fan…ME!

Live from The Social in Orlando, FL finally seeing Twin Atlantic for the first time. If it weren’t for The Syndicate I wouldn’t have been in love with this band as much as I am now. If you missed their tour with We are the Ocean, The Swellers, and You Me at Six check them out at the Vans Warped Tour this summer! Definitely a fave of mine!

Happy 2012 followers!

A lot has happened in life since my last posting on here, unfortunately that was in October. I am truly, truly sorry for the lack of activity.  I have a lot to say to everyone on how I feel and why the blog has gone unnoticed for the past 3 months.

After returning from CMJ (College Music Journal) week in New York City, I had a lot of ideas and experiences I wanted to share with all of the Life of a Synner family. Being able to meet a lot of my fellow Synners, hang out with our awesome staff, and learn of TONS of new music throughout the week, I had so many fresh ideas and posts that I wanted to write and tell you all about. Then life got in the way…

I have kept this blog strictly music related, sharing my experiences being a Synner, different shows or festivals I am attending, or my advice from one follower to another. However, what I have not talked about on here is my life outside of music. While music has a big role in my life, my career sometimes takes over that. Many of you who do not know me personally, do not know that I work full time a law firm here in Tampa 5 days a week. I schedule for 12 attorneys, which requires for me to write and send emails, add appointments to their calendars all day, on a computer. With this said, by the end of the day the last thing I want to do is be on the computer.

When I started Life of a Synner, I was in a different place in my life. Free time came a lot easier than it does now, and I do wish I could get that back. The process of beginning a blog is quite a learning experience for me. I never expected the level of upkeep to be as high as it is, and I commend every fellow blogger out there! I have learned a lot since I have started the blog last summer and even more during my time of not maintaining the blog. While my work for SynnerNation has not been very active with campaigns (although that will be changing soon!!) I have had many other music related topics that I want to share with you all.

This story all goes back to networking, networking, networking!! On my three days out on Warped Tour, I was reunited with an entertainment lawyer, that I met through another friend of mine a few weeks before. We exchanged business cards, and before I knew it we were in a meeting with each other at a local Starbucks. We shared our experiences in the music scene and our thoughts on what we want to get out of our journeys, and from that I introduced my best friend, who is widely known throughout the scene into the mix.  We began sharing our thoughts as a whole, and before we knew it, we all were in agreement to start something up together. While, this blog focuses on my life being a Synner and my journey with working for The Syndicate, my story, this story, can show any of you, the importance of networking and how to make yourself known in the scene.

I would like to formally introduce to you all, that I am now part of a management team that manages an up and coming artist, Erin Lancaster, lead singer of Mayfield (http://www.reverbnation.com/mayfieldrocks) based out of San Diego. She also has a few brothers in the scene, older brother, Jason Lancaster of Go Radio and younger brother, Daniel Lancaster of Build the Sun.  Artist management and booking are two paths that are brand new for me and will be a continuous learning process. I am definitely excited for the road ahead and to share my experiences with you all. If it would not have been for joining The Syndicate and the SynnerNation family, I do not think that opportunities like these would have been this easy to start.  My experience in this situation is just another way to show that by getting one foot in the door can lead you to many other diverse opportunities!

While many other things have gone on from October to present, such as major events:  my 22nd (yikes!) birthday, Thanksgiving, my favorite concert of the year hands down, being Skrillex, Christmas, New Years (just to name a few), it IS a new year and with a new year brings a new start to the Life of a Synner blog.

If you have taken the time to read this post, thank you. I apologize to all of you dedicated followers for the lack of posts and would like to welcome all the new followers and new members of SynnerNation! It’s a great family to be in. Do it right, and the sky is the limit.

HAPPY 2012! WELCOME NEW FOLLOWERS! WELCOME BACK LIFE OF A SYNNER BLOG!!

Let’s make 2012 the best one yet!

Rock on!

WOW! So I am finally back in Florida after a long, AMAZING week in NYC for CMJ. It was a very packed week, with many events! After the great Synner dinner on Tuesday night, the rest of the week was filled with many shows throughout Manhattan. I had a blast getting to know all of the Synners that were local to the area or traveled to the area for CMJ. I have posted some pics of some of my favorite shows we attended throughout the marathon. CMJ honestly is a experience of too many words and a experience that is way to difficult to express into words over a blog. I recommend that if you ever get a chance to attend marathon that you do it! It was a wonderful learning experience. Now the countdown begins to SXSW!!

Following this post will be my experiences on working my first day of show in New York City for Boy & Bear’s performance at the Bowery Ballroom during CMJ week!

I recently took on a Competitive Campaign (marketing for a band at a local show that is not on the show’s bill) for New Found Glory at the Blink 182 show last Saturday. I received 1000 stickers to distribute after the show.  With the unpredictable Florida weather, I decided to go before the show due it it already raining on and off before the show and with looming clouds over the venue, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to miss marketing the stickers with the attendees.
I arrived to a HUGE line of attendees waiting to get into the venue, which made handing out 1000 stickers a breeze! The majority of the people attending the show were stoked about the stickers, and with their new release, Radiosurgery and learning more information about what the band has been doing, the stickers were a big hit! I got to tell the attendees of the show about their new single, and about their upcoming show in our area on October 17th! So in reality, this promotion of New Found Glory, acted as a marketing tool to make people aware of their upcoming album, but even more specifically for our area it acted as a reminder to the attendees that the the artist has an upcoming show.
It was a great promotion and went way better, and faster than I expected! The stickers were such a hit that I was able to get out 1000 stickers in a hour and a half!! Overall, it was a huge success and I was thrilled with how well the promotion went.
